Baby bonnet

19th century

This hand-embroidered white lace cap was intended as a head-covering for an infant. The cap featured thread lace bands and insertions. The cap was fitted to the infant’s head by adjusting the drawstrings encased in each side of the embroidered strips and tied with a woven tape string. This cap was commonly called a baby bonnet.
