Daguerreotype

1845

A daguerreotype is an early from of a photograph. It is created imprinting an image into silver halide. Daguerreotype is a direct photographic process without the ability for it to be reproduced or duplicated. For the first time in history, people were given the opportunity to have an exact likeness of themselves or their loved ones for a modest cost. Daguerreotypes were inexpensive alternatives to painted portraits, and considered to be a more life like representation of the person than a portrait.
