Dominoes

19th century

This is a domino set and its wooden box, which features a sliding removable top to allow easier access to the dominoes. Dominoes are little tiles twice as long as they are wide; their dots represent the throws of two cubic dice. This domino set consists of 45 dominoes, includes double blanks (meaning no dots), and goes up to double eights. Such double-eight sets, though popular in the 1800s, are no longer used or produced. These dominoes are made of wooden backs with bone tops, with dots set into the bone side.
