Dough bowl

19th century

Breadmaking during the 19th century relied on the use of home-ground flour and was called yeast bread. It had to be made the day before baking and took a great deal of preparation. People with greater wealth usually had the time and resources to enjoy wheat bread, while everyone else was consuming corn bread, which was easier and less expensive to produce.
