Catheter

19th century

Eighteen silver catheters with varying lengths and purposes are contained in this tin box set. The thin tubes are most commonly used to drain urine from a bladder that cannot dispell of it properly. The lack of anesthesia and bacterial knowledge in Republic times would have made catheterization a painful process and rather dangerous procedure.
