Phrenological Journal

1850

The American Phrenological Journal was founded by O.S. and L.N. Fowler and Samuel Wells who supported the now widely discredited study of phrenology. The journal was published from 1838 to 1911 and this copy, published in 1850 would have had articles on how to determine a person's character by examining the contours of their skull. Phrenology's popularity continued in the United States up until the 20th century and had followers such as Ralph Waldo Emerson, Horace Mann, Thomas Edison and Alfred Russell Wallace.
