A tourniquet is a common device for stopping dangerous amounts of blood from exiting a person's body through a wound or contusion. It is effective by wrapping a piece of cloth or other material tightly around the site and preventing blood from passing through the bound area. It was manufactured by Snowden & Bros. of Philadelphia.
