William Barret Travis to the People of Texas and All Americans in the World

2-24-1836

William Barrett Travis wrote this letter begging for reinforcements as he and 150 of his men defended the Alamo. It is famous for the lines, " I shall never surrender or retreat. Then, I call on you in the name of Liberty, of patriotism, and everything dear to the American character, to come to our aid with all dispatch. ...VICTORY OR DEATH." On March 6th, Mexican troops overtook the Alamo and Travis and his men were killed.
