Winder

1900

The yarn winder was used to wind and measure the yarn into measured lengths called skeins. The yarn winder holds the yarn for warping. The "warping" is tightening of the yarn to give it the correct tightness for weaving and different patterns require different levels of tightness. The winder made the effort of creating manageable spools of yarn into a somewhat easier task and was commonly referred to as a Lazy Kate.
