Baby bonnet

1850

This hand-embroidered white lace cap was intended as a head-covering for an infant. It features thread lace bands and insertions. The cap was fitted to the infant’s head by adjusting the drawstrings encased in each side of the embroidered strips and tied with a woven tape string. Commonly called a baby bonnet, it was made by Mrs. Anson Jones for her son, Cromwell Anson Jones, born 1849. Cromwell was the son of Anson Jones, the last president of the Texas Republic, who served from 1844-1846.
